At the beginning of his music video, “Different,” Micah Tyler shares intimately about his personal struggles. In the midst of being displaced due to a hurricane, and finding out his grandmother and brother were both diagnosed with cancer, he pleaded with God to change all the things wrong in his life. How many times have we, or someone we know, pleaded with God to change or “fix” our circumstance? Please God make him love me again. Please God remove this tumor. Please God help him overcome his addiction. Please God soften my boss’s heart… the list of pleas goes on and on. But what do we do when God doesn’t respond the way we want?
We can find hope in Romans 12:2~
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
Life Application~
The answer lies within the question itself. In his video, Micah Tyler continues to explain how he experienced a major difference in his life when he realized our question should not be, “Jesus can you change these things around me?” but instead, “Can you change me so I can handle the things I’m walking through?” Our heart influences our thoughts which influences how we look at things. By asking God to transform our heart and mind, we begin to look at things differently; and when we change how we look at things, the things we look at change. Our circumstances may not necessarily turn out the way we want, but we will be better equipped to walk through the circumstances before us.
Prayer~
Heavenly Father, I humbly ask you to renew my mind and change my heart to reflect your love. Fill me with your strength, so I can better handle the things I’m walking through. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
