When broken pieces of pottery are glued back together, you can still see the “scars” outlining the original broken pieces. No matter how hard you try, the pottery will never be the same as it was before it was broken.
It’s the same with us when we get hit with an unexpected event, and we find ourselves desperately trying to glue all the pieces of our life back together again. Like the pottery, our scars remind us that we will never be the same as before we were broken. We may even grieve the loss of the life we once had.
We can find hope in 1 Peter 5:10 ~
“And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.”
Life Application~
Kintsugi, the Japanese art of fixing broken pottery by injecting gold into the cracks, actually showcases the broken pieces as part of the object’s history. The Japanese believe this results in a stronger and more beautiful piece than the original.
Similarly, trials in life give us the opportunity to make us, and our faith, stronger. Having been jailed and beaten for his beliefs, the apostle Peter was no stranger to suffering. His letter is a beacon of hope for all who struggle, as he reminds us Christ himself will do what we can not do for ourselves – restore and strengthen us into something even more beautiful than before.
Prayer~
Heavenly Father, please comfort me through my trials and restore the pieces of my life in a way that makes me, and my relationship with you, stronger than ever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
