Fear

Sometimes fear can be healthy. For example, fear of getting in trouble or being hit by a car keeps young children from running into the street. On the other hand, fear can be paralyzing. Fear can stop us from changing careers, sharing our true feelings, or seeking out meaningful relationships. Fear can hold us back from chasing dreams or visiting new places. Fear can hinder our decision making, prevent us from making necessary lifestyle changes or asking for help. Fear plants seeds of doubt in our mind, “What if I fail? What if I’m rejected? What if I can’t support my family? What if…?”

We can find hope in Isaiah 41:13~

“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you.”

Life Application~

During his lifetime, the prophet Isaiah gave godly counsel to several kings in Judah. He also had the tough job of telling the sinners of Israel about God’s future judgement. Isaiah had every reason to fear rejection, but he didn’t let it stop him from fulfilling his purpose. He knew God is not only a God of justice, but a God people can depend on during fearful times.

We’re in the midst of fearful times now. What fears are consuming your thoughts today? Use the above verse from Isaiah to take your fears captive. Imagine God holding your hand and gently guiding you through your circumstance while your fears diminish under the power of His presence.

Prayer~

Heavenly Father, thank you for taking hold of my hand as I face my fears. Help me feel your presence and trust that my faith in you will overpower my fears, so I can live the life you desire for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
