Not Alone

After Moses died, God put Joshua in charge of leading the Israelites into the land promised to them when they left their lives of slavery in Egypt. It’s hard to know what Joshua was thinking when he was given such a big challenge. Until Moses’ death, Joshua had been his right hand man – traveling with him, helping him and answering to him. Even though Joshua was surrounded by thousands of Israelites, I imagine there were times when he felt alone without Moses’ guidance and companionship.  At one time or another, most of us have experienced feelings of loneliness. Sometimes it happens even when we’re in the most crowded spaces.

We can find hope in Joshua 1:9 ~

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Life Application~

Joshua was able to march forward into the Promise Land with confidence knowing that God had his back. It was like God was Joshua’s own personal companion and body guard! Thankfully, we can have this same relationship with God. When we invite the Holy Spirit into our lives, God walks in front of us  to pave the way through our doubt and uncertainty, he walks along side of us to offer comfort through the trials and joy in the triumphs, and he walks behind us to encourage us to keep marching forward -one step at a time- into the promise of the better life he has in store for us.

Prayer~

Heavenly Father, thank you for keeping your promise to be with me wherever I go, through both the good and the tough times. Your presence gives me courage to face each day with new hope in knowing that I am never alone. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
