As a child, we learned to ride a bike without training wheels. We didn’t know the physics behind the 2-wheeled creation or the laws of inertia, but we trusted we could do it. Why? For most of us it was because someone told us we could, and we believed.
However, as we get older, it seems trusting in the unknown gets harder. Our individual experiences tell us we have more reasons to doubt, fear, or distrust. We want to understand why things happen the way they do. We want guarantees that our actions and our decisions will turn out the way we hope; and when we realize that’s not possible, we panic. We become paralyzed by our thoughts and struggle to make decisions or try new things.
We can find hope in Proverbs 3:5-6 ~
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Life Application~
King Solomon, was known as the wisest king to ever rule Israel, and much of his wisdom was captured in the book of Proverbs. Not only did the locals seek out his wisdom, but “all the kings of the earth sought audience with Solomon to hear the wisdom God put in his heart” (2 Chronicles 9:23). Reread Proverbs 3:5-6 and take comfort in knowing these words were preserved after all these years, so that our generation, and generations to come, can find reassurance in God in the midst of a world filled with uncertainty.
Prayer~
Heavenly Father, thank you for speaking wisdom through the hearts of men and women from our past and in our present lives. I admit it is difficult to trust in the unknown, especially in situations when the future seems bleak, but today I choose to put my trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
